Heads of Terms signed for an integrated poultry investment in Ghana

£270 million integrated poultry system

On Thursday 27th August, a Heads of Terms Signing Ceremony was convened by the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme. Held at the Tony Blair Institute in Accra, the signing proposed an integrated poultry investment under Ghana’s National Poultry Transformation Programme. The partnership included Agrium Capital, Petra Pension Trust and Axis Pension Trust.

The focus of this partnership is to collaboratively advance an integrated poultry system spanning feed production, breeding, processing, cold chains, logistics and market access. Through this collaboration the goal is to build a competitive poultry industry in Ghana that meets market demands, creates access to jobs and participation in export markets.

CEO of Agrium Capital, Rod Bassett spoke of the importance of public-private collaboration:

“Our approach is one of collaboration, we can not do these types of projects alone as the private sector. It requires engagement with secretariats such as the 24-Hour Economy, the government of Ghana, the various agencies of Ghana but more importantly, strategic sovereign and institutional investment partners who share the vision and purpose of what we are trying to do.”

Next steps including developing a shareholders’ agreement and moving the project towards delivery.
